Simmons Riflescopes: Simple and Straight Shooting

Optics maker Simmons has been making affordable hunting optics for a long time.  While hunters often dream of expensive European models, it is affordable reliable scopes like Simmons that often end up on the sportsmen's rifle. The current line of Simmons rifle scopes is fairly large, so this article will focus on some of the most popular scopes series in the Simmons line up.

Simmons ProHunter scopes are made for the pistol, shotgun, and rifle hunter. First, the pistol shooter has two magnification options in the ProHunter series, a 4x32mm or a 2-6x32mm model. Next, the shotgun hunter can choose from either a 4x32mm or a 1.5-5x32mm scope.  Finally, the rifle hunter has only one option; however it is the popular and versatile 3-9x40mm and a version of this scope with an illuminated reticle is available. While this series of scope might not have a lot of exciting new features it does represent the Simmons brand fairly well as it has something for a wide variety of shooters, but not an endless amount of configurations and variations.

The Simmons Aetec series of scope is Simmons high end scope, which is available in two magnification options, a 2.8-10x44mm or a 4-14x44. The 2.8-10x44 model can be had with a silver finish, and an illuminated reticle is an option but only on the matte finish model. The 4-14x44 model comes in matte only but can be had with a standard, mil-dot, or illuminated reticle. The 4-14x models also have side adjustment parallax focusing, unlike less expensive models that often use an adjustable objective. Both the 2.8-10x and 4-14x models come with sunshades and retail for just over 0 dollars.

The Predator Quest series of rifle scope is new to the Simmons lineup.  Currently there are two options available: a 4.5-18x44mm model or a 6-24x50mm model, both models are built on a 30mm main tube, often only found on higher end scopes.  These scopes also have multi coated lens and side focus parallax adjustment, and as the name implies are being marketed towards predator hunters although they would likely work well for both varmint and target shooting as well.

The 22 Mag series of riflescopes, as they name would imply, is designed with the rimfire shooter in mind.  This series of Simmons scope is available in either a 4x32mm or 3-9x32mm configurations and both can be had in either matte black or sliver finishes.  These scopes are available with Simmons duplex reticle which they call Truplex, and come with rimfire rings. These scopes often rank quite high among online user reviews, as being a reliable and affordable option for rimfire rifles.

The Simmons 8-Point series of rifle scopes are designed for the hunter on a tight budget.  The 8-Point is available in four configurations:  4x32mm, 3-9x32mm, 3-9x40mm, and 3-9x50, and is available in any color and finish you want as long as it is matte black with a Truplex reticle. This is classic Simmons, by keeping offering only highly popular configurations with very limited variations they are able to keep the price low, a standard 3-9x40mm can often be picked up for about .

I am interested in buying a Simmons 6-18x50 rifle scope. What is your opinion on the scope? Oh, and please don't answer if you just read about it and haven't owned it. I can do that. But if you have owned one give me a heads up on if it is a good buy or not.

I had one on my remington 700 and it was descent. I sighted it in and that was about as much use as it got.one thing I did have trouble with is getting the cross hairs to stay clear they would get blurry even at long distances. could have just been me or that particular scope.

How to sight in your new rifle scope yourself?

Learn how to properly bore sight a gun so that you are able mount your new rifle scope correctly. Bore sighting is when take both the barrel of the rifle and the rifle scope to focus on your target. By adjusting your viewpoint between the two lines of sight, you will be able to adjust the rifle scope until the viewpoint is the same. Ensure that the gun doesn't move while you are doing this or the alignment will all out of whack.

Take a few practice shots, then if you can see how closely the bore sighting process aligned the rifle scope. Try to shoot in a really tight focused pattern, then you will be able to see how accurate your sights are.

A Short Description and Components of a Rifle Scope

What should I look for in a riflescope and other considerations.
 Is it waterproof, fog proof and shockproof?

Some terminology explained, or Oh I knew that!
A reticle is a net of fine lines in the eyepiece of a sighting device which allows you to "crosshair" your target.
There are illuminated reticles, etched reticles and wire crosshairs,some are shaped like the traditional crosshair and some are three meeting at the center.
Interchangeable illuminated center-dot, red, great for any light condition, green illumination for foggy dusk/dawn situations and blue for optimum clarity in low light.

Where and how will you use the rifle scope?
Some scopes are very rare because they are manufactured specifically for distribution to international dealers and are not normally available in the United States.
Competition shooters and hunters who shoot long range.
Optimized for use with all generations of night vision devices?
Specialty scopes include models designed for black powder guns, very low light conditions, slug guns and long range varmint guns.
High power semi-autos, on slug guns, on shotguns and on high power rifles.
Some manufactures offer packages that include a rangefinder or binoculars in a package deal. Usually it is like paying for the scope and getting the other for free.
Some great names to look for are Burris, Bushnell, Leupold, Nikon, Pentax, Sightron, Simmons, and Tasco. They all make scopes in many configurations and price ranges. You will need to do your research.

A rifle scope can be a expensive investment, look to fit it to how you will use it. All scopes are not made equal to all tasks. Picking the right one, not necessarily and inexpensive one or the most expensive is the answer.
Fitting a scope to your temperament, budget and how you will use it will give you many years of dependable use.

A Guide to Buying Simmons Rifle Scopes

Time to upgrade your hunting and shooting accessories again? In that case look no further than Simmons rifle scopes. For those of you who don't know Simmons was bought out in the late 1990s by Meade Instruments - a California based optics company. Several of the new Simmons rifle scopes sport some of the new Meade sourced technology - including the ProHunter, ProSport and the AETEC range of scopes. The ProDiamond also feature some of these new advancements. Just one of the features you'll see in the new lineup of Simmons scopes is a side focus parallax adjustment. This feature is available on variable power models with high-magnification.

One thing that won't change in the new Simmons Master Series is the high-quality glass configurations and multicoatings that shooters have enjoyed for years. If anything the quality of the configuration will now be even better that Meade is involved in the equation.

Meade did resolve one problem that's common to many high power rifle scopes. This is the elimination of the "fringe" that regularly appears around the edge of an image viewed through the scope. By combining different types of glass along with better quality optical coatings, Meade believes they have finally solved this problem and may have just revolutionized the rifle scope industry in a dramatic way.

Premium ED (Extra-Low Dispersion) glass is used in the design of the new objective lens. This is something that has never been done before in the production of scopes and although it may seem to be a bit revolutionary, that may just be what the industry needed to set it sailing toward new heights. With the use of this new construction application, the lenses are able to actually correct according to color, which can significantly reduce the amount of chromatic aberration that is experienced. In addition, resolution and contrast are simultaneously enhanced right along with light transmission. All of this results in images that are stronger and brighter and well as more accurate.

Question by gochenour_jarvis: help with Simmons rifle scope?
Just bought a rifle that has a simmons model 21012 3-9x32 scope and the power ring(zoom ring) will not turn. I don't think i need to remove the tiny screw in it to turn it do I? I looked at the generic manual on simmons web site and could not figure it out. Is it just stuck? Can any one help me out?

Removing the tiny screw will disconnect the ring from the internal part to which the ring is attached.

Simmons Rifles Scopes - a Buyers Guide

Time to upgrade your hunting and shooting accessories again? In that case look no further than Simmons rifle scopes. For those of you who don't know Simmons was bought out in the late 1990s by Meade Instruments - a California based optics company. Meade are well know for producing some of the most advanced and impressive telescopes in both the commercial and recreational industries. It was greatly anticipated when the buyout took place that Simmons rifle scopes would again begin to demonstrate some of the high class features that Meade has come to be associated with. That has definitely proven to be the case with the introduction of the Master Series from Simmons which has taken the shooting world by storm.

Several of the new Simmons rifle scopes sport some of the new Meade sourced technology - including the ProHunter, ProSport and the AETEC range of scopes. The ProDiamond also feature some of these new advancements. Just one of the features you’ll see in the new lineup of Simmons scopes is a side focus parallax adjustment. This feature is available on variable power models with high-magnification.

One thing that won’t change in the new Simmons Master Series is the high-quality glass configurations and multicoatings that shooters have enjoyed for years. If anything the quality of the configuration will now be even better that Meade is involved in the equation.

Meade did resolve one problem that's common to many high power rifle scopes. This is the elimination of the "fringe" that regularly appears around the edge of an image viewed through the scope. By combining different types of glass along with better quality optical coatings, Meade believes they have finally solved this problem and may have just revolutionized the rifle scope industry in a dramatic way.

Premium ED (Extra-Low Dispersion) glass is used in the design of the new objective lens. This is something that has never been done before in the production of scopes and although it may seem to be a bit revolutionary, that may just be what the industry needed to set it sailing toward new heights. With the use of this new construction application, the lenses are able to actually correct according to color, which can significantly reduce the amount of chromatic aberration that is experienced. In addition, resolution and contrast are simultaneously enhanced right along with light transmission. All of this results in images that are stronger and brighter and well as more accurate.
